| Geochemical Indicators of Fine-grained Soil Fractions in the Overburden of the Jiagantan Gold Deposit, Gansu Province |
| Deep-penetrating geochemical methods have recently facilitated remarkable results in the exploration of concealed deposits. However, because the explanations for surface metal anomalies are often unclear, this method has not been widely applied in mineral exploration. Effective surface anomaly tracing technologies to enhance the exploration capabilities of concealed ore bodies in covered areas are required. The Jiagantan gold deposit in Gannan, Gansu Province has thick and rich ore bodies in the northwestern part, while the southeastern part is covered by younger sediments. This study collected soil fine-grained samples from the surface cover layer to investigate the spatial distribution, correlation, and influencing factors of the total and mobile forms of Au, As, Sb, and Hg. The Au content showed a systematic decrease from the mineralization center to the periphery, with significant horizontal zonation characteristics. Correlations among the total contents and mobile fractions of Au, As, and Sb synergistically delineate mineralized areas. Structures and topography jointly influence the secondary enrichment of elements: fault zones can provide favorable channels for the vertical migration of elements, while surface depressions can cause secondary enrichment of Au, As and Sb, forming local anomalies. Furthermore, based on sample data from varying depths of the ZK7202 borehole, separate exponential models were established for Au and As contents as a function of overburden thickness (R2> 0.75), which have the potential to indicate the burial depth of gold ore bodies. Therefore, the anomaly of the Au-As-Sb coexisting elemental association in the fine-grained fraction of the cover layer soil and the measurement of mobile fraction content is an important tool for geochemical exploration and an anomaly indicator for concealed gold ore bodies. |
