Reservoir Space Characteristics and Micro-enrichment Patterns of Shale Oil of the Lower Es3 Member–Upper Es4 Member in Dongying Sag
      To investigate the characteristics of shale oil in the complex lithofacies of lacustrine shale, various experimental techniques such as petrographic thin-section identification, scanning electron microscopy, nitrogen adsorption-desorption isotherm measurements, high-pressure mercury intrusion combined analysis, organic geochemical analyses, and laser confocal microscopy were utilized to analyze the petrological and lithofacies characteristics, pore types and structural characteristics, oil bearing properties, and hydrocarbon occurrence characteristics of shale in lower Es3 member–upper Es4 member in Dongying Sag, namely, laminated feldspathic mixed shale, laminated carbonaceous shale, layered calcareous mixed shale, and laminated calcareous mixed shale, which were characterized by significant differences in the types and structures of pores. The pore diameters of laminated carbonate-rich shale are generally less than 20 nm, and fractures are pronounced. Laminated carbonaceous shales are characterized by pores with diameters that are generally <20 nm, although these shales have extremely well-developed fractures. We also found that light and heavy hydrocarbons are distributed along the laminae, with the former being primarily enriched in the intergranular and intercrystalline pores within the feldspathic and calcareous laminations, as well as in bedding and structural fractures. Heavy hydrocarbons are found predominantly within organic maceral and clay laminae. We further established that the laminated calcareous mixed shale and laminated carbonaceous shale are “in-situ retention” type shale oil enrichment models, whereas laminated feldspathic mixed shale and layered calcareous mixed shale are characterized by an imbalance between hydrocarbon generation capacity and oil content, thereby indicating obvious short distance hydrocarbon migration, which can be considered a “micro-migration adjustment” type shale oil enrichment model, and a favorable “sweet spot” for shale oil exploration.
