South Qilian Tectonic Uplift in the Eastern Segment of the Northern Qaidam Basin Recorded by the Cenozoic Sediments
      Since the Cenozoic, the South Qilian Range to the northern Qaidam Basin has undergone tectonic uplift due to an ongoing convergence between the Indian and Eurasian blocks. This activity provides important insights into the influence of far-field effects of continent-continent collisions on intra-continental deformation. In this study, based on an integration of the sedimentary characteristics of the conglomerate of the Shangganchai-gou–Xiayoushashan Formation (Middle Miocene), stratigraphic architecture, paleocurrent reconstruction, and detrital zircon U-Pb age spectra, we demonstrate that the conglomerate of the Shangganchai-gou–Xiayoushashan Formation represents syn-tectonic sedimentation responding to deformation of the South Qilian Range to the eastern segment of the northern Qaidam Basin, and that detritus is mainly sourced from the Qilianshan Range. Within the new geochronological framework, our findings indicate that during the Middle Miocene, intense tectonic uplift occurred in the South Qilian Range, triggering deformation and structural reorganization of the Qaidam Basin.
