Discovery and Significance of the Kuokejilega Super-large Gold Deposit in the West Kunlun Metallogenic Belt, Xinjiang
      The West Kunlun Fe-Cu-Au-Pb-Zn-Mo-rock crystal-muscovite-jade-asbestos metallogenic belt in Xinjiang is lo-cated at the convergence of two major global tectonic-metallogenic domains, the Tethys and Paleo-Asian oceans. It boasts exceptional metallogenic geological conditions, having undergone multi-stage tectonic evolution (in-cluding oceanic subduction, continental collision, intracontinental orogeny, and extension), accompanied by mul-ti-phase and diverse magmatic activities, which caused the formation of large-scale fault systems. In recent years, supported by projects financed by the Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region, the Kashi Geological Team of the Xinjiang Bureau of Geology have conducted gold geological surveys in the western segment of the West Kunlun Mountains. This work led to the first discovery of gold mineralization within a ductile-brittle structural zone, extending hun-dreds of kilometers in length and several kilometers in width. Representing a major breakthrough in gold explora-tion, the Kuokejilega super-large gold deposit was also identified. The main gold orebodies are hosted in the Lower Silurian Wenquangou Formation and composed of carbonaceous-bearing chloritoid-sericite phyllite. The master faults, extending hundreds of kilometers, control the distribution of regional and mine-scale structural units, strata, geochemical anomalies, and the gold mineralization zone. These structural zones exhibit intense ductile-brittle shear deformation characteristics and constitute the primary ore-hosting and ore-controlling structures. Magmatic rocks are not well developed in the area. Quartz veins, representing the principal gold-bearing vein, are widespread and oc-curring in clusters and zones along the structural trends. The ore primarily exhibits a sparsely disseminated to scat-tered distribution, with local development of stockwork-disseminated, massive, and banded ores. The metallic minerals are dominated by arsenopyrite, pyrite, chalcopyrite, and native gold, with minor amounts of galena, magnetite, and limonite. Hydrothermal alteration includes chloritization, sericitization, carbonatization, silicifi-cation, and sulfidation. Preliminary studies suggest that the Kuokejilega gold deposit is a structure-altered rock type gold deposit associated with a ductile-brittle shear zone. The gold resource potential in the Akto area of the West Kunlun metallogenic belt is estimated to have tremendous prospecting potential. Its discovery provides an important model for exploring similar types of gold deposits in the region and holds significance for establishing a gold belt in the West Kunlun of Xinjiang.
