| Deposit Types, Spatial Distribution, Development, and Utilization of Tungsten Deposits in China |
| Tungsten deposits in China can be classified into seven major types: porphyry-, skarn-, greisen-, quartz-vein-, altered granite-type tungsten deposits, sand tungsten deposits and other types of tungsten deposits. Among these types, skarn- and quartz-vein-type tungsten deposits are the most dominant. This study compiles the spatial distribution, development, and utilization of tungsten deposits in China. Tungsten deposits are divided into 13 metallogenic belts (regions). Tungsten deposit in China is characterized by widespread distribution with localized concentrations. Tungsten resources and reserves are dominated by large- and medium-sized ore fields and scheelite ores. Many paragenetic and associated components of tungsten deposits have significant comprehensive utilization value in China. There are few rich tungsten ores, while many are of poor quality. Tungsten deposits are the dominant mineral resource in China, which is the world’s largest producer and exporter of tungsten in the world. China’s annual output of tungsten accounts for 81% of the world’s annual output. The tungsten industry chain is integrated in China, with clear advantages in the front end and the middle ends on a global scale. However, the high-quality hard alloys with high performance and precision rely on imports. |
