Source Rock Characteristics of Suowa Formation in Puruogangri Area, Qiangtang Basin |
The degree of oil and gas exploration in the Qiangtang Basin is low. To identify the potential of Juras-sic Suowa Formation source rocks, the current study conducted total organic carbon extraction, chromatography-mass spectrometry, Ro determination, and isotopic analysis of the Puruogangri profile outcrop. This study aimed to define the source rock characteristics and formation environment of the Suowa Formation in Puruogangri area. The results showed that the total organic carbon content of the Suowa Formation source rocks in the study area ranges from 0.22% to 2.16%, with an average of 0.65%. The depositional environment is a reductive marine facies, with the parent material contributed by higher plants and algae. The kerogen isotopes indicated type III organic matter. Influenced by Paleogene volcanic activity, the source rocks were at a high-maturity stage, with Ro values ranging from 1.85% to 3.51%. A comprehensive analysis indicated that the Suowa Formation source rocks, centered around intrusive rocks (former heat sources) and within the radiation range of the Puruogangri profile, are gas-dominated. In areas distant from the intrusive rocks, the Suowa Formation source rocks could produce small amounts of crude oil. |
