Spatiotemporal Dynamic Monitoring of Desertification in Kangbao County of Zhangjiakou City Based on Albedo-NDVI Feature Space
      Desertification is one of the significant ecological and environmental problems that threaten human existence and development. China has a relatively high proportion of desertification land area. Therefore, continuous monitoring, control, and prevention of desertification have always been vital tasks in the country’s ecological protection and restoration efforts. By constructing the Albedo-NDVI characteristic space of Kangbao County from 1990 to 2022, the desertification index for each period was obtained. Subsequently, the spatial distribution characteristics and evolution law of desertification in the study area over the last 33 years were dynamically monitored and studied. Furthermore, the influence mechanisms of natural and man-made driving factors on the evolution of desertification were explored by collecting and analyzing the relevant data trends. The conclusions are as follows: (1) The Albedo-NDVI linear regression equation of the “dry edge” of Albedo-NDVI feature space was constructed, with R2>0.7, indicating a strong correlation between Albedo and NDVI. (2) Between 1990 and 2022, the proportion of extremely severe and severe desertification in the study areas decreased year by year, effectively improving the desertification situation. (3) Between 1990 and 2022, the areas experiencing a reduction in desertification gradually increased, while the areas facing aggravation of desertification gradually decreased. (4) Natural factors (temperature, sunshine, evaporation amount, and wind speed), human factors (land use and population change), and policies related to ecological management (3-North Shelter Forest Program, the Beijing-Tianjin sandstorm source control project, the Taihang Mountain afforestation project, the conversion of farmland to forest, and the comprehensive treatment of groundwater over-extraction) are all identified as important driving factors for the development and change of desertification in the study area.
