Characteristics of Terrestrial Heat Flow in the South of Luxi County,Jiangxi Province
      The southern region of Luxi County in Jiangxi Province is rich in geothermal resources. However, geothermal geological investigations in this area are lacking, and terrestrial heat flow measurements remain scarce. This lack of information hinders a thorough exploration and utilization of the local geothermal potential. This study focuses on the Xinquan and Shixi zones in the southern sector of Luxi County. By merging data from borehole core thermal property tests with geothermal well temperature recordings, the rock thermal conductivity, geothermal fields, and heat source dynamics are examined in the selected areas. The average rock thermal conductivity in the focus areas spans from 2.063 to 6.176 W/(m·K). Notably, siliceous quartzite demonstrates peak thermal conductivity, making it an optimal thermal conductor. The mean terrestrial heat flow was found to be 76.39 mW/m2, a figure that surpasses the mainland China average of 62.5 mW/m2, suggesting a relatively heightened thermal backdrop in the zone. The granite’s average radioactive heat production rate is 2.16 μW/m3, which excludes it from the category of high heat-producing stones. Radiogenic heat offers a nominal contribution to the surface heat flow, with the predominant heat source stemming from profound crustal heating. The researched region is geologically active, marked by primary and subsidiary fault lines that serve as robust thermal and water transmission routes for the deep circulation of subterranean hot water. The findings from this study can offer valuable perspectives for harnessing the geothermal resources in the Wugongshan area.
