Characteristics and Evaluation of Geothermal Resources in the Rongdong Area of Xiongan New Area
      The Rongdong area is the first resettlement in the planning and construction of Xiongan New Area, which offers good potential for geothermal resources. The identification of its geological conditions and the accurate assessment of its geothermal resources can provide theoretical support for the development and utilization of geothermal resources and the transformation of the energy structure in Xiongan New Area. This study determined the geothermal resource characteristics and formation mechanism of the Rongdong area through analysis of the geological structures, fault distributions, heat flow, and hydrochemical field characteristics. The geothermal resources of the Jixian system carbonate thermal reserve were then evaluated using the equilibrium method of extraction-reinjection. The results showed: (1) The main geothermal reservoirs in the study area include the porosity-type geothermal reservoir of the Neoproterozoic Minghuazhen Formation, the carbonate thermal reservoir of the Jixian System Wuzhishan Formation and Gaoyuzhuang Formation, and the carbonate thermal reservoir of the Changcheng System. The thermal reservoir of the Jixian System is the primary thermal reservoir for geothermal exploration and development, with a water temperature of approximately 50 °C, a reservoir thickness ratio of 20%–40%, and a maximum reservoir porosity of 11.3%. (2) Atmospheric precipitation in the northwestern Taihang Mountains is the recharge source of geothermal resources, groundwater is heated by deep rock along the fractures through deep heat provider, and then transported along the hydraulic fracture zone to the strong karst fissure development area at the bulge, forming a hydro-geothermal systems. (3) The recoverable resources of the geothermal fluids in the carbonate thermal reservoirs of the Jixian system under the balanced extraction and reinjection conditions are 1.33×104 m3/a, and the recoverable heat of geothermal fluid is 0.95×1015 J/a, which is equivalent to 32 300 tons of standard coal pear year. This research will help build a clean, low-carbon, safe and efficient energy system for the Xiongan New Area.
