Mineragraphy Characteristics of Typical Manganese Deposits and Their Indications for Metallogenic Processes in Yunnan, Guizhou, and Guangxi |
The representative manganese deposits in Yunnan, Guizhou, and Guangxi include Datangpo manganese deposit in Songtao, Guizhou; Xialei manganese deposit in Daxin, Guangxi; Tongluojing manganese deposit in Zunyi; and Dounan manganese deposit in Yanshan, Yunnan. The mineralogical characteristics of typical manganese deposits in Yunnan, Guizhou, and Guangxi were studied by means of a microscope, X-ray diffractometer and scanning electron microscope, to determine the formation environment of the deposits. The Datangpo manganese deposit in Songtao, Guizhou occurs in the first member (Nh1d1) of Datangpo formation of the Nanhua system, whose mineral assemblage characteristics include rhodochrosite, calcium rhodochrosite, manganese dolomite, manganese calcite, quartz, and illite. The microfacies of the Datangpo manganese deposit is SMF2, while the sedimentary facies is FZ1 (basin facies); these are formed at the extension stage of the sedimentary environment. The Daxin Xialei manganese deposit in Guangxi occurs in the Upper Devonian Wuzhishan formation (D3w), whose mineral assemblage characteristics include limonite, manganese potassium ore, rhodochrosite, calcium rhodochrosite, rosaxene, tremolite, and quartz. The microfacies of the Daxin Xialei manganese deposit are SMF2 and SMF15-M, while the sedimentary facies is FZ7 (platform facies); these are formed at the extension stage of the sedimentary environment. The Tongluojing manganese deposit in Zunyi occurs in the second member of Maokou Formation of Middle Permian (P2m2), whose mineral assemblage characteristics include siderite, calcium siderite, manganese calcite, manganese dolomite, sulfur manganese ore, pyrite, sphalerite, kaolinite, illite, and siderite. The microfacies of the Tongluojing manganese deposit are SMF15-C and SMF17, while the sedimentary facies is FZ7 (platform facies); these are formed at the shrinking stage of the sedimentary environment. The Dounan manganese deposit in Yanshan, Yunnan occurs in the Middle Triassic Franc formation (T2f), whose mineral assemblage characteristics include brown manganese ore, water manganese ore, calcium rhodochrosite, manganese bearing calcite, calcite, and quartz. The microfacies of the Dounan manganese deposit in Yanshan, Yunnan are SMF4 and SMF13, while the sedimentary facies is FZ4 (slope facies); these are formed at the extension stage of the sedimentary environment. |
