In-situ Carbon Isotope and Cathodoluminescence Characteristics of High Temperature and High Pressure Synthetic Diamond
      The naturally occurring diamonds attract a great many of attentions among geologists; however, the importance of the researches on the synthetic diamonds is often overlooked. A combined study of the synthetic and the naturally occurring diamonds helps to reveal the forming process of natural diamonds and identify the natural diamonds. In this study, the microscope, ion probe (Nano-SIMS),Raman spectroscopy and cathodoluminescence analytical techniques were used to investigate the crystal structure, inclusions, in-situ carbon isotope, and cathodoluminescence images of the high temperature and high pressure synthetic diamonds. The results reveal that the cathodoluminescence images of the synthetic diamond is obviously different from those of natural gem-grade diamonds. The Nano-SIMS data further show that the difference between the brightness and darkness of the cathodoluminescence images is relevant to the nitrogen content in the diamond.
