Guest Editor’s Preface to the “New Technologies of Isotope Analysis and Its Applications in Geology” |
Isotope dating and tracing technology have penetrated all aspects of earth science. By using this technology, researchers can determine the age of geological events, rocks and ore deposits and trace the material sources of rock and ore as well as their forming conditions. Isotope geochemistry has become an important power to promote the development of earth science. With the development of analytical techniques, micro-isotopes, non-traditional isotopes and high-dimensional stable isotopes have become a frontier and essential area of isotope geochemistry. Chinese researchers have also made a series of significant achievements in this field recently. The special issue (No. 5, 2020) of Acta Geoscientica Sinica contains 13 papers concerning the new technology in isotope analysis and its applications in geology, primarily in two directions: (1) New methods of isotope analysis and preparation of reference material for isotope measurement, (2) New progress in isotope geochemistry, which is mainly focused on the application of isotope tracer technique in ore deposits and marine sedimentary environments. This paper will give a brief introduction to these articles. It is valuable to learn more about the new methods of isotope analysis and the latest achievements of application of isotope geology in China. |
