A Review of Paleomagnetic Study of the Formation and Evolution of the Tibetan Plateau
      During the past decade, Chinese and foreign geomagnetic scholars obtained a large number of paleomagnetic data on the Tibetan plateau. Based on these paleomagnetic results, the collision process of the Tibetan plateau blocks including the Himalayas, Lhasa and Qiangtang blocks were reconstructed. Both the amount of intracontinental crustal shortening due to the collision of India–Asia and the model of the plateau deformation were discussed. The previous paleomagnetic studies of the Tibetan plateau in the past 30 years are reviewed and summarized in this paper. On the basis of the analysis of the available paleomagnetic data, the authors try to rebuild the evolution process of the Mid-Tethys and Neo-Tethys Ocean, and to further study the dynamic background of the formation and evolution of the Tibetan plateau.
