| Distribution Characteristics of Rare Earth Elements and Their Provenance Constraints in the Surface Sediments from the Western Bohai Sea |
| In this study, the authors analyzed the rare earth elements (REEs) of surface sediment samples collected from 44 stations in the western Bohai Sea using inductively coupled plasma-mass-spectrometry (ICP-MS). The results show that the REE UCC normalization distribution pattern in surface sediments from the western Bohai Sea is similar to that in China’s loess, indicating that the sediments in the study area are mainly derived from the mainland substance. As a result, the ∑REE is positively correlated with Mg, Ti, Co, Cr, Li and the fine-grained sediments, and ∑REE is negatively correlated with the coarse-grained sediments. There is no significant positive or negative correlation between ∑REE and Zr. The REE content and parameters of characteristic values were analyzed by the Q cluster analysis, the study area is divided into 3 different geochemical regions. The central and northwest sediments from the western Bohai Sea have high ∑REE and come mainly from the materials of the Haihe River and the Yellow River, the south and southeast sediments of the western Bohai Sea have come mainly from the material of the Yellow River, and the sediments off Luanhe River Estuary in the northeast region of the study area are from the Luanhe River. |
