| Research Progress of UNCOVER in Australia |
| In order to deal with the decline of discovery rate in mineral exploration, and to maintain a prosperous mining industry, UNCOVER is proposed by the Australian Academy of Science as a comprehensive geosciences research program. The program consists of an exploration geoscience researcher network and four important initiatives, that is, characterizing Australia’s cover, investigating Australia’s lithospheric architecture, resolving the 4D geodynamic and metallogenic evolution of Australia, and characterizing and detecting the distal footprints of ore deposits. By means of cooperation in the development of a strategic alliance, which is innovative, structural and national, among the Australian scientists, it is expected that the discovery rate of the nation’s mineral exploration will be increased, and a competitive advantage for mineral exploration in Australia will be created. The program calls for and arouses indeed cross-sector or multi-sector participation, such as the exploration industry, university research groups, government geoscience agencies and cooperative research centers. It is a typical model of industry-university-research cooperation, worthy of consideration and reference. |
