| Canadian Lithosphere Exploration Program |
| Canadian lithosphere exploration program (LITHOPROBE) is a national earth science research cooperation project that established by the Canadian government in order to have a comprehensive understanding of the North American continent evolution process. The main scientific objective and organization are established basing on the study of 10 sections or the study areas. The LITHOPROBE is considered to be one of the most successful national geoscience projects up to now, and it uses various geological methods such as geophysics (multichannel reflection, seismic refraction, electromagnetic, etc.), geochemistry and geochronology. This project has achieved good results in deep fundamental geological research, mineral resources exploration, geological disaster warning, personnel training, deep exploration instruments, management of major science and technology projects, etc. The LITHOPROBE has also established a model for similar projects in other countries. Through the analysis and investigation of project process, results, social benefits and problems of the LITHOPROBE, we hope to give a reference for deep exploration in China. |
