High-Precision Analysis of Pb Isotope Ratios Using MC-ICP-MS
      The method for isotopic high-precision analysis of Pb by multi-collector inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry is reported in this paper. Mass fractionation was corrected by thallium as an internal isotopic standard. The results show that the fractionation coefficients (f) of Pb and Tl are different and the f Pb/f T1 ratios are constant with changing operating parameters such as nebulizer gas, extraction potential and sampling depth. However, the is not equal to with =0.9995. The 205Tl/203Tl ratio obtained is 2.388095 by regression. The data of NIST SRM981 Pb are 208Pb/206Pb=2.16704±2, 207Pb/206Pb=0.914730±5, 206Pb/204Pb=16.9381±2, 207Pb/204Pb=15.4938±2 and 208Pb/204Pb=36.7056±7, which are consistent with the reference values measured by TIMS. The 208Pb/206Pb ratio, however, is a bit lower. The precision of the analyses made by the authors seem to be 4~11 factors better than those from TIMS by Baker et al. (2004).
