| Volcanic Structures in Beipiao-Yixian Area and Their Relationship to Fossil-bearing Beds of Yixian Formation |
| The Yixian volcanic cycle formed in Early Cretaceous may be divided into four subcycles, and the volcanism is characterized by migration from west to east and evolution from basic through intermediate-basic to intermediate-acid which results in the formation of a series of volcanic structures of various grades. There are mainly 4 th-order～6 th-order volcanic structures in the area, which include volcanic structural depressions, stratified volcanoes, broken volcanoes, and dome-shaped volcanoes. The volcanic structures of various grades and different stages affected the formation, distribution and preservation of fossil-bearing beds in various degrees. The 3 rd-order volcanic structure controlled NE-trending expansion of the volcanic-sedimentary rocks of Yixian Formation, the 4 th-order structures formed two huge volcanic structural depressions with relatively independent sedimentary strata in them, and the 5 th～6 th-order structures directly affected the spatial form and material constituents of the fossil-bearing beds. |
