A Preliminary Research on the Numerical Simulation of the Emei Mantle Plume
      Numerical simulation is an important method in the study of mantle plume. The dynamical model developed in this paper consists of density and continuity equation, momentum equation and energy equation. With the finite element method, the model can be described by two equations depending on temperature and stream function. By means of Numerical Simulation, some important conclusions have been reached: ① The Emei mantle plume penetrated the mantle and migrated upward into the crust in a period of about 100×106 a, and then the main eruptiontook place in a short time; ② Inthe process of mantle plume evolution, the phase of upwelling and plume-lithosphere interaction lasteda long time; ③ The Emei mantle plume migrated upward in a way of pulzation. Thematerial and energy of the Emei mantle plume were transported by pulse, and thepulse caused the plate to move; ④ Viscosity played an important role in the process of mantle plume upwelling; ⑤ The melting of lithosphere and the eruption of continental flood basalts lasted a long time,which provided enough time for large scale mineralization.
