A New Method for Studying Ground Stress in the Structural Compressive Area of a Foreland
      Through a comparison between distribution characteristics of logging data in the structural stable field and those in the structural compressive field, the authors put forward a new method for determining maximum horizontal in situ stress based on statistical analysis of resistivity and acoustic slowness time. The method and the model were used to calculate in situ stress in the Kuche oil field of Tarim basin. The calculated stress coincides with the result of the acoustic emission experiment. The azimuth of the maximum compressive horizontal principal stress was also obtained by using enlarged well bore breakouts in the area. The research shows an intimate relationship between the stress distribution and the distribution of petroleum pools in the area.
