| The Westward Deep Thrust Zone across Ganyu and Jiaozou |
| The existance of a westward deep thrust zone is for the first time advanced by the author. The deep thrust which acted mainly on the upper mantle and lower crust and strongly affected the superstructures was formed by the westward spreading of the upper mantle under the Yellow Sea. The deep thrust zone and its characteristics were disclosed on the basis of a variety of geophysical data, surface tectonic features, and the data of stress and strain. Many strong earthquakes distributed on the northern side of the zone were controlled by the deep thrust. It is predicted that the strong earthquakes will occur on the northern side of the zone in future,and that there exist rich geothermal resources along the zone. |
