The Chenier II on the Western Coast of Bohai Bay:Its Subdivision and Amended Time framework |
The Chenier II is most accessible and intensively studied one among the other cheniers on the West Coast of Bohai Bay. Our newly discovered evidence indicates that it is separated, by a narrow lagoon-marsh mud belt, into two sub-ridges in Shanggulin. This is supported chronologically by a number of 14 C ages from this site and Laolangtuozi, and other places from the literature. Radiocarbon study has long been a drawback in the working area. 14 C sampling-position adequateness, proper species for dating and systematic calibration are all strictly followed including ①Geologically, samples were taken from the bottom and/or lower portion of the chenier bodies, or from the immediately adjacent underlying/overlying muddy layers;②Geochemically, suitable species for radiocarbon dating in the area have been determined as Umbonium sp. and Terebridae, etc. These prove that the Chenier II consists of two sub-stages, II 1 and II 2, with their initial ages of ~10 century B.C and ~3 century B.C, respectively. |
