| The research priorities and drilling goals of Ocean Drilling Pro gram ar e introduced from two scientific themes,e.g.dynamics of earth's environment and dynamics of earth's interior,in this paper.The scientific theme of dynamics of e arth's environment try to understand earth's changing climate,causes and effect s of sea-level change,and other problems such as global carbon cycle,formation o f gas hydrates and submarine biological resources based on studies on sediment,flu ids and bacteria.The scientific theme of dynamics of earth's interior try to exp lore the transfer of heat and materials to and from Earth's interior,and to inve stigate deformation of the lithosphere and earthquake processes.In addition,thre e challenging initiatives,including understanding natural climate variability an d the causes of rapid climate change,insitu monitoring of geological processes, and exploring the deep structure of continental margins and oceanic crust,are al so introduced. |
