The Principle and Its Application of Grey System Theory to Forecasting of Mineral Deposits
The mineral deposits, resulting from a certain mineralization for a very long time, in wide space, and in complex media, exist in the areas where the geological environ-ments have gone through local deviations. This kind of deviation can be classifide as three categories: geology, geophysics, and geochemistry. The three categoryes contain their own specific features, and are also associated with each other. The exporation methods in terms of geology, geophysics, and giochemistry have been employed to obtain the prospecting in-formation, a phenomenon considered as a representation of the three aspects of the mineral-ization. Obviously, the modern grey system theory can be used to analyse the long-term, complicated, and multi-source mineralization, a representation of a grey dynamic pro-cess. The comprehensive method can be used to locate the mineral deposits,a representa-tion of a grey system engineering for the geological prospecting. The formation and the distribution of mineral deposits are considered as a grey sysem composed of multi-factors in ore control associated with each other and in a dynamic changing state. Therefore, this system shoild be observed comprhensively, in a dynamic changing state. Therefore, this system shoild be observed comprehensively, in terms of the prognosis of the mineral de-posits, in order to reveal the distribution of the grey mineralization field, and to locate the place most favorable for the mineral deposit to exist in. The new research methodology for the forecasting of mineral deposits combines the grey system theory with methods in terms of geology, geophsycal exploration, and geo-chemical exploration. In this research, the reference number series based on the known mineral deposits are proposed to be grey sub-waves. The correlationalscanning covers the number series for comparision in the controlled region. In this way, the correlational anomaly can be determined for the forecasting of the place for the mineral deposits to exist in. This grey forecasting of mineral is depost were applied to and then checked in the fore-casting of the concealed copper and nickel deposit in Hami, Xinjiang. The thirteen indica-tors in terms of geology, geophysical exploration, and geochemical exploration were chosen in the collection of prospecting information in the research region: 7 geological indicators in terms of adjacent-rock property, rock-mass lithoglogy, rock-mass age, rock-mass ero-sion, mineralization, vein rock, and fracture; 3 geophysical exploration indicators in terms of induced polarization anomaly ηs, apparent resistivity ρs, and magnetic anomaly Za; and 3 geochemical exploration indicatiors in terms of Cu, Ni, and Co sevondary haloes. Altogether 38 indicator states were classified, and 27028 data were collected. The forecasting practics shows that the distribution of the correlational anomaly corresponds to the location of the copper and nickel deposit. The research method is used to design the location of Hole ZKY1. When the drill bit passed along the hole to the along the hole to the depth between 110 and 190 meters below the earth suface, it is drilled through more than 50 meters of copper and nickel beds. This practice thus proved that the method can be used for the col-lection of the mineral deposit information, for the comprehensive processing of the infor-mation, for the optimization of the target region, and for the forecasting of the location of the mineral deposit. In this case, the method are appropriate for the large-scale forecast-ing of the concealed mineral deposits.
