Tectonic, 3-D Stress and Models for Oil-Gas Accumulation of the Qaidam Basin |
From the view-point of the "stress driving" for oil, we lay emphasis on estab-lishment of the stero-geological models of the Qaidam basin which include a basement lay-er(G),three source beds (A, C and E) and three reservoir beds (B, D and F), and have used the theory of multi-layered unisotropic medium and the 3-D photoelasticity modeling to calculate the size and direction of the structural stresses (σ1σ2σ3)and the strain energy (w),and plotted the various spatial diagrams, its contain 7 layers: source beds (A, C, E),reservoir beds (B,D,F)and the basement (G),plotted at the optimum direction 180°and 120°with positive and negative forms, and both vertical and lateral profiles. Finally, the spatial graphs are compiled into compact graphs.
As is known to all, it is very difficult to make a 3-D stress analysis, we have selected 10 typical petroliferous depressions and their adjacent anticlinal for the study. Correlations have been made in consideration with the known oil and gas fields, and analyses of basin have shown that: The stress and strain energy of the petroliferous rock series are impor-tant mechanical indexes for the migration of oil and gas. During the process of the migra-tion and accumulation of petroleum, both the absorption and release of the stress and strain energy take place. The increase of stress and strain energy is favorable, the migra-tion of petroleum, while their decrease favorable for the accumulation of petroleum. In the reservoir beds, the stress and strain energy values are higher in the depression than in their surrounding anticlinal rises, decreasing in the same direction as the values of stress and strain energy will be the most probable direction of the petroleum igration, and the low value areas will be the places for the accumulation of petroleum.
On that basis, the following models may be built for the migration and accumulation of petroleum related to the structures and tectonic stress of the oil field: first, the oil and gas bodies in the reservoir beds migraling from the decreasing of the stress and strain ener-gy; and second, the oil and gas bodies in the source beds imgrating from the adjacent anti-clinal convexes to the synclines or depressions. Therefore, oil reservoirs may also be formed in the low-stress, low-strain energy synclinal depressions. |
