Geology and Discovery Process of the Nepa Potash Deposit in Siberia and Enlightenment for Potash-Searching Work in China
      This paper provides a brief introduction to the geological characteristics and formation conditionsof the Nepa Potash Depeit in Siberia.The Siberian salt-bearing basin is situated on the Siberian Plat-form,with an area of 2.5 million km ̄2, including a potassium-bearing depression of 2000 km ̄2.The potassium-bearing series belongs to the Lower Cambrian Angara suite,with rock salt bedsmore then 6 00m and potash beds 7 0-150m in thickness.The potash sequence has six sylvinite-car-nallite horizons.Sylvinite beds carry 35%-45%KCl and<1%either MgCl_2 or insoluble residues.The salt-bearing basin is separated from the open sea by the surrounding reefs and old-lands.Thepotassium-bearing depression is the deepest region on the platform.Searching for potash deposits in Siberia began in the fifties of the century. The geologists made alot of basic geological paleotectonic,lithofacies-plaeogeographical,geochemical,hydrochemical andgeophysical studies.During 1963-1973 the drilled footage for seeking potash amounted to 100 thout-hand meters.At last the biggest potash deposit in the world──the Nepa Potash deposit was found atthe end of the seventies. The search for potash had losted more then 30 years.From above it can be seen that the search for potash deposits requires protracted and arduous en-deavour.
