| BRILLIANT ACHIEVEMENTS IN CHINA'S GEOLOGICAL SCIENCES |
| China's geological sciences entered a new historical epoch with the victory of the Chinese revolution and the birth of the People's Republic of China. In the forty years since the founding of the People's Republic of China, under the correct leadership of the Party Central Committee and the State Council and through the coordination, arduous struggle and energetic exploration of geological workers throughout China, great development has been made in China's geological sciences. Now there are 102 specialized research institutions and nearly 20000 professional personnel engaging in researches on geological science and technology,while before liberation there was only a geological survey and more than 20 geologists engaging in the research. Today a contingent of geological scientific and technical personnel with different levels of organisations, a full range of disciplines and rich human and material resources has been set up. In order to meet the requirements of the country's economic construction and geological exploration, they have been extensively carrying researches on geological science and te-chnology,and major advances and breakthroughs have been made in the studies of geology of mineral deposits. basic geology. environmental geology and some new techniques as well as multipurpose utilization of mineral resources and information of geological science and technology. More than 8000 important results of geological science and techuology have been submitted, of which more than 750 won national awards and more than 2000 won awards from provinces or ministries. These achievements have made important contributions for China's economic construction and mineral exploration and promoted the progress of China's geological science and technology. This paper systematically summarizes the brilliant achievements of China's geological science and technology in six aspects, i. e. regional geology and basic geology, geology of mineral deposits, hydrogeology and engineering geology, comprehensive evaluation and multipurpose utilization of mineral resources, techniques and methods of mineral and rock analysis and tests and information of geological science and technology and vocational work of library. |
