LATE DEVONIAN AMMONOID FAUNULE FROM THE ZHONGBA DISTRICT,XIZANG(TIBET) |
The Late Devonian rocks in Zhongba district, Xizang are exposed by both sides of Chaiqu (柴油) river, extending along NWW-SEE trends and paralleling to the mountain ridges, and constitute the core part of Jurila(巨日拉) anticlinorium which is in contact with C-P by fault on the limbs. Their top and bottom are absent. These rocks are composed of two parts: one is carbonate facies (the Lower member of Jurisang group), the other is detrital facies (the Upper member of Jurisang group). From the latter a few ammonoids have been found. They include 3 genera, 2 species and 3 uni-dientified species. They are Lobotor noceras sp., Sporadoceras sp., S. pompeckji Wedekind, S. cf. biferum (Phillips) and Cheiloceras sp. etc..This ammonoid faunule represented by Sporadoceras may be in correspondence with the n bed of Early Famenian in Western Europe and the 25-27 ammonoid zones in North America etc. (Table 1).This and another fauna from the Damenshan formation of th Great Khi-ngan Mts. all belong to the Lower Famennian in age and the Arctic realm in provincialism. |
