ALTUN STRUCTURAL BELT AND ITS INFLUENCE ON TARIM AND QAIDAM BASINS
      The Altun structural belt is composed of an anticlinorium uplift zone with the Middle-Late Proterozoic strata as its axis and the counterclockwise compresso-shearing fractures on its both sides. The anticlinorium was uplifted during the Hercynian-Indosinian times, and reached its largest uplifting seale in a period from the Late Pliocene to the Quaternary.The Tarim and Qaidam basins are cut apart by the big faults on both sides of the anticlinorium. The two basins are the first-order depression of the Xiyu system. They were influenced by sinistral shearing and tilted uplifting of the Altun structural belt. Consequently the structure of the basement and the sedimentary cover of the basins were sheaerd to become arcuate or reversed S-shaped and the basins compound with the Altun structure belt. The concave of the arcuate structures between the northwest Qaidam basin and the southern margin of the Altun mountain faces west, and wes uplifted with Altun anticlinorium, which made the Qaidam basin become a shrinkage type extending southeastward. On the other hand, a part of the inclined arcuate structure was exposed to the surface to link with the Altun Mountains.The concave of the arcuate structures of the Tarim basin on the northern margin of the Altun Mountains faces east, and subsided with the northern Altun, which made the Tarim basin become a flinching pattern on the north and a overlap on the south part, and moved the centre of the Mesozoic-Cen-ozoic depression from the north to the south part of the Tarim basin.
