摘要:
ON THE FEASIBILITY OF CONSTRUCTING UNDERGROUND RESERVOIR IN THE CARBONATE ROCKS REGION IN THE NORTH OF TIANJIN
Since the diversion work, which diverts water from the Luanhe River into Tianjin, has been constructed, the serious water-lacking problem of Tianjin remains to be solved.Because Tianjin is situated in a coastal plain, the storage capacity on the surface is too weak to regulate and store water artificially. In the north of Tianjin, the region of shallow-lying carbonate rocks, in which the Ordovician limestone is about 800 meter thick and distribute over an area about 350 square kilometers, structurally belongs to the Xiacang-Linnancang synclinorium, which is an ideal place for water-storing, because of the fact that the aquicludes are well developed at its margin and bottom, and there are many karsts and cracks within the limestone. As mentioned above, it is clear that to construct underground reservoir is a feasible scheme geologically. Except the waters which are retained by the reservoirs built at the upper reachs of the rivers to the north of Tianjin, there are about fifteen hundred millions tons of water still available for other uses every year. About half of this amount could be used for underground storage. To construct the underground reservoir has many advantages. For example, it will not occupy land and involve population evacuation, and will reduce evaporation of water to a minimum, and save time and investment. If the proposal is fulfilled, it can provide to the consumers 820, 000 tons water daily, which equals to the amount supplied by the water-company of Tianjin every day at present.
