A DISCUSSION OF TAPHROGENESIS AND HYDROCARBON DISTRIBUTION IN CHINA
      Taphrogenesis takes place in oceans and on continents. It has acted throughout the whole phanerozoic time, mainly during the Late Proterozoic, the Late Paleozoic and the Mesozoic-Cenozoic. The taphrogenesis in China is also divided into three stages; Xingkai stage (Z2-C1),Emei stage (D2-T2) and North China stage (T3-E). In the overall geodynamic movements the position of the taphrogenesis is equal to and closely related to that of orogenesis. Therefore, studying the characters of taphrogenesis is not only important for developing the theory of geosyncline and researching intraplate, but also of exploiting ore deposits, especially hydrocarbon distribution.Taphrogenetic basins result from taphrogenesis.There are three types of basins in China.Type Ⅰ: The continental plate was broken apart, forming taphrogenetic basins. For example, when the paleoplatform of China was dismembered in the Xingkai taphrogenetic stage, were formed the miogeoclinal taphrogenetic basins in the south Tianshan Mountains, the south Qilian Mountain and the south Tianshan Mountains, the south Qilian Mountain and the Longmen Mountain and the Yinchuan aulacogen.Type Ⅱ: Those were formed in the back arc by convergent plates, Me-so-Cenozoic North China taphrogenetic basin in the eastern part of China and the Cenozoic East Sea and South Sea taphrogenetic basins, for instance.Type Ⅲ: Those were formed by collision of continents with each other, for example, the Late Paleozoic taphrogenetic basin in Southwest China, and the Cenozoic taphrogenetic basin in Fenhe-Weihe graben region.The above-mentioned basins are favourable for hydrocarbon generation and accumulation and preservation, containing 90% of the oil and gas reserves in China.Taphrogenesis is of a global tectonic or regional scale. Yet its mechanism remains unknown. It is presumed that a cyclic variation would strengthen the conversion of the mantle, and drive the lithosphere plates to get motion and then there were compression and extension on the cooling elastic upper crust, the orogenesis took place in the geosyncline, and taphrogenesis was formed on the platform or the mid-ocean.
