| ON THE SINIAN-CAMBRIAN BOUNDARY IN EMEICOUNTY,SICHUAN |
| The boundary section between Sinian and Cambrian at Gaoqiao in Emeicounty of Sichuan Province is one of the important section in studying thementioned boundary in China because of its simplicity of structure, the conti-nuity of stratigraphic sequence and the abundance of fossils. This paper introduces systematically the research history of the Sinianand Cambrian, the subdivision of strata and organisms concerned in the areanear Mt. Emei. It also describes the sedimentary environments, the evolution of organisms from the late Sinian to the beginning of early Cambrian. The authors consider the first appearance of enormous amount of various kinds of shell fossils as the principal basis for the division of Sinian and Cambrain. The small-sized shelly fossils-Anarbarities-Circotheca, which represent the fossil assemblage in the lower part of the Maidiping Formation, attest to the presence of the lowest part of Cambrain. These can be correslated with contemporaneous strata and boundaries in different districts of China as well as in different parts of the world. |
