| PROSPECT OF OIL RESOURCES IN CHINA AS VIEWED FROM GEOMECHANICS |
| The location of oil provinces from an analysis of the tectonic systems existing in a givenarea constitutes the starting point in the search for oil by using the principles of geomechanicsas a guide. It is followed by the delineation of oil fields within an oil province which is refer-red to as a depressed part of a first-order tectonic system in which a thick sedimentary pilemost favourable for the formation and accumulation of oil builds up. An oil field occurs in pla-ces where good reservoir conditions are provided. The distribution of oil provinces is controlled by first-order terctonic systems, while oil fields are often localized in tectonic element of the 2rd, 3rd or still lower order. Exploration practice shows that shear structures or rotational shear structures are the most preferential sites for oil accumulation and may serve as an important indication of a buried oil field. |
