The Application of Sequence Stratigraphy to Subtle Trap Prediction: Its Principle and Method
Abstract:Searching for subtle traps by means of sequence stratigraphy is a popular and significant research subject in hydrocarbon exploration. In this paper, the relationship between sequence stratigraphy and subtle traps is discussed in the case of fluviolacustrine depositional system within Jurassic of SB area, Turpan Hami basin, China. The research thought and flowchart for this purpose are summarized. Base-level circles and high-frequency sequences for the formations of Well TC2 were identified in the light of stratigraphic base-level principle proposed by T.A.Cross. The results are valuable in accurate correlation of sand layers and prediction of reservoirs in the study area. The three types of parasequence were distinguished, which are different from the concept of sequence stratigraphy initiated by P.R.Vail et al.
