Succesion of Fossil Communitirs and Relationship with Change of Sea Level
Abstract:Based on characteristics of fossil foraminifera from Cretaceous to Paleocene in the Western Tarim Basin. succession of fossil communities in time proceeds along three stages:1.opportunistic species community 2.equilibrium species community 3.ultimate species community In this paper, the concept about ultimate species is first time proposed. The elements andwall types of foraminiferal community in each stage of succession are quite different. The threestages in time form a succession cycle. There is a non- organism interval between two successioncycles. It is recognized that the mechanism of community succession depends mainly oncompetition among organisms. The succession cycles are considered to be directly related tochanges of sea level.
