FOSSIL FRESH-WATER TRIOPSIDS,A NEW FAMILY-XINJIANGIOPSIDAE FAM. NOV
Abstract:A new notostracan family (Xinjiangiopsidae fam. nov.) is erected and four species described herein.Diagnosis of Xinjiangiopsidae fam. nov. Body narrow generally numerous abdominal segments, singla eyed, abdominal dorsum with two or more rows of spines, abdomen not differentiated into anterior and posterior portion, carapace broader than Jong in general, and its margin not strongly spinose, telson branching.The superfamily Triopsoidea includes 4 families: Triopsidae Montalenti, 1935, Weichangiopsidae Yang et Hong (MS),Discoce phalidae Hong (MS) and Xinjiangiopsidae fam. nov. The new family differs from the Triopsidae in having a single eye (Triopsidae with two eyes and a single medium eye). It is distinguished from the Weichangiopsidae by combination of such features as prosomal shape, presence of cervical groove, typical eye region. It differs from the Discocephalidae by having a branching instead of a single telson. This family contains a genus Xinjiangiops Hong, 1980 and 12 species, which were discovered from the Turpan Basin of North Xinjiang (Kelamay Formation, T2k) and Tongckuan region of Sbaanxi Province (Tongchuan Formation, T2t).Xinjiangiops tongchuanensis sp. nov. resembles the prosomal shape, of Xinjiangiops suni Hong, 1980,but differs from the latter in having a rounded eye.X. he jiaf angensis sp. nov. looks like X. suni Hong 1980, but is distinguished from the latter by having a somewhat straight and broader prosomal margin. It differs from X. lenticulata (MS) by having a triangular eye.X. planatu sp. nov. is similar to X, lenticulata (MS) in form, but differs from it by straight anterior margin of the prosoma and the differentiated position of the dorsal organ.X. discreta sp. nov. resembles the X. obtidiscrete (MS), but differs from it by the curved posterior margin of the prosoma. The new species differs from X. tongchuanensis sp. nov. mainly in having a rounded prosoma.All specimens are preserved in the Tianjin Institute of Geology and Mineral Resources.
