Cover Story:Pull-apart depression along the eastern segment of the Riganpei Co fault (RPCF), Tibet (Photo taken by UAV). The Riganpei Co fault is an ENE–WSW striking left-lateral strike-slip fault located in the Qiangtang terrane, central Tibet. The linear RPCF cuts through Quaternary geological and geomorphic units, forming typical fault-related tectonic and geomorphologic markers. LIU Fu-cai et al. determined the late Quaternary slip-rate and tec-tonic-geomorphologic characteristics of the RPCF based on the interpretation of high-resolu-tion satellite images and field surveys, and they proposed that it plays an important role in accommodating coeval E-W extension and N-S shortening in the interior of the Tibetan Plateau. In addition, they discussed the seismogenic fault of the Mw6.4 Nima earthquake that occurred on July 23, 2020. Their results provide a new refer-ence for understanding the E-W extensional de-formation process and mechanism of large earthquakes in central Tibet. For details, see pp. 173-188 of this issue.
