Cover Story:Taishan Stone——migmatite in Taishan area, Shandong Province. Migmatite is a special rock type formed during the high rank metamorphism and consists of dark matrix and light-colored veins. Plastic deformation in the process of metamor-phism led to the formation of various kinds of ex-quisite patterns in the rock. Migmatite is well developed in Taishan area of Shandong Province, and Tsiahan Stone is a world-famous product. Professor WANG Ze-jiu, former Executive Vice President of Chinese Academy of Geological Sciences and former Vice Chairman of Geological Society of China, conducted studies of Precam-brian geology and metamorphic petrology in Shandong Province in the early 1960’s, during which he was gradually fond of migmatite and his love for migmatite became more and more passionate. In memory of his outstanding contribution in this aspect, a photo of Taishan stone is specially chosen for the front cover of this special issue in celebration of Professor WANG Ze-jiu’s 80th birthday.
