Cover Story:Construction site of well Tucan 1 in the Tuquan basin of Inner Mongolia as well as the extracted crude oil. On the basis of field geological survey and gravity, magnetic, electrical and seismic integrated exploration as well as combined interpretation and research, an oil and gas prospective area was delineated in the extensive volcanic rock- covered province on the periphery of the Song-Liao basin. Well Tucan 1 intersected hydrocarbon rock and obtained oil-bearing core in the middle-lower Jurassic strata. Through oil test fracture, light crude was obtained. These results have realized important breakthrough in the oil and gas survey in the volcanic rock-covered area and are hence of great significance in the exploration and de-velopment of oil and gas resources on the periphery of the Song-Liao basin. The research achievement led by Professor ZHOU Xin-gui, Oil and Gas Resources Survey Center, CGS, and Professor CHUN Shu-wang, Shenyang Center of Geological Survey, CGS, ranks the first among “Top Ten Geological Sci-tech Progresses of CGS & CAGS in 2014”.
