Cover Story:The producing area of ophiolite diamond and Tibet diamond. In quite a few areas such as Yarlung Zangbo River in Tibet, Bangong Lake–Nujiang River, Myitkyina in Myanmar and Sartokay of Xin-jiang, diamond and some other ultrahigh pressure minerals were discovered in ophiolite mantle peridotite and chromitite, and normal position diamond was found in chromitite. Researches show that this kind of diamond is different from kimberlite type and ultrahigh pressure metamorphic type diamond in C isotope and mineral inclusions. The researchers hold that it is a new kind of diamond and name it ophiolite diamond, thus opening up a new orientation for the diamond re-search. The research achievement led by Professor YANG Jing-sui, Institute of Geology, Chinese Academy of Geological Sciences, ranks the fifth among “Top Ten Scientific and Technological Pro-gresses of CAGS in 2012”.
