封面故事:单根海绵根须骨针及其横截面扫描电镜图像。硅质海绵骨针是自然条件(常温、常压和硅含量极低的中性环境)下由硅蛋白经酶催化仿生合成的纯生物二氧化硅,骨针截面为规则同心圆结构。纳米生物技术仿生合成生物无机矿物材料具有节能和“环境友好”的特征,在光纤、微电子和生物医学材料等领域具有广阔的应用前景。这项由中国地质科学院国家地质实验测试中心王晓红研究员主持的研究成果,当选2010年度中国地质科学院十大科技进展,排名第三名。详见本期第129-141页。(照片提供:王晓红)
Cover Story:Spicules from the Monorhaphis and its SEM image of the giant basal. Siliceous sponge spicules form their skeleton enzymatically, using silicatein in mild conditions of low temperature and near-neutral pH, under which they catalyze the synthesis of pure bio-silica, which is the matrix for the skeletal elements or the spicules. The cross section of the spicules displays a very regular concentric structure. Following the strategy “nature as a model”, researchers have developed novel energy-saving and “environmentally friendly” technologies for human applications. These nano-biotechnolo gical ap-proaches provide the basis for the production of novel bio-inorganic mineral materials to be used in the fields of optical fibers, microelectronics, biomedical materials and some further areas. This research achievement directed by Prof. WANG Xiao-hong, National Research Center for Geoanalysis, Chinese Academy of Geological Sciences, ranks the third among “Top Ten Scientific and Technological Progresses of CAGS in 2010”.
